Baccarat rules come down to one comparison. Two hands, Player and Banker, get two cards each. A fixed table decides whether either takes a third card, and the total closer to 9 wins. Your only decision is where to bet. Player pays 1 to 1, Banker pays 0.95 to 1 after a 5% commission, and Tie usually pays 8 to 1.
In short: Cards count 0 to 9 and only the last digit of a total matters. A natural 8 or 9 ends the hand; otherwise Player draws on 0 to 5 and Banker follows a set table. On an eight-deck shoe the house edge is about 1.06% on Banker, 1.24% on Player and 14.36% on an 8 to 1 Tie. No betting system or scoreboard pattern changes those numbers. GGLBET listed 135 live baccarat tables from 19 providers on 12 October 2026.
What are the basic baccarat rules?
Under standard baccarat rules, the casino deals two hands from a shoe, usually of eight decks. One hand is called Player and the other Banker, but neither belongs to you or to the dealer. They are two boxes on the layout. You back Player, Banker or Tie before the cards come out, and nothing you do afterwards changes the result.
The hand whose total is closer to 9 wins. If both totals match, the Tie bet wins and Player and Banker bets are returned, which the casino calls a push. Everything else in the baccarat rules covers two questions: how a total is counted, and when a third card is drawn.
Because the drawing is automatic, baccarat plays like a coin toss with a slight lean. In blackjack your choices move the edge up or down. Here the only decisions are which box to back and how much to stake, which keeps learning how to play baccarat quick.
How much is each card worth in baccarat?
Card values are the first of the baccarat rules to learn. They are fixed, and suits do not matter:
- An Ace counts 1.
- Cards 2 to 9 count their face value.
- A 10, Jack, Queen or King counts 0.
Add the cards and keep only the last digit. A 9 and a 7 make 16, so the hand is worth 6. A King and a 5 make 5. Two 5s make 10, which counts as 0, the weakest total in the game. No hand can bust, and no total goes above 9.
A two-card total of 8 or 9 is a natural. Naturals stop the hand at once: neither side draws, and the higher total wins. A natural 9 beats a natural 8, and two equal naturals tie.
How to play baccarat, one round at a time
Learning how to play baccarat takes about five minutes. Every round runs in the same order, and the baccarat rules decide each step for you. A live online table follows the sequence of a land-based game; the only difference is that the betting window is a countdown on your screen.
- Place chips on Player, Banker or Tie, plus any side bets, before the timer runs out.
- The dealer deals four cards face up, alternating Player, Banker, Player, Banker.
- If either hand holds a natural 8 or 9, both hands stand and the round is settled.
- If not, the Player hand draws a third card on 0 to 5 and stands on 6 or 7.
- The Banker hand then draws or stands, based on its own total and on Player’s third card if one was dealt.
- The totals are compared and the one closer to 9 wins.
- Winning bets are paid, with 5% taken from Banker wins, and the next betting window opens.
You can switch sides from one hand to the next, and you never have to bet every round. Watching a few hands without a stake is the cheapest way to learn how to play baccarat at live speed. To find a game, open the GGLBET live casino and pick the Baccarat tab. Our online baccarat page shows the main studios and a few featured tables.
Pace matters more than most beginners expect. More hands per hour means more money passing over the house edge. At the same stake, a speed table costs more per hour.
Baccarat drawing rules: when does a third card come out?
The baccarat drawing rules look fussy on paper, but the dealer applies them for you. Knowing them lets you follow a hand as it happens and see why Banker gets paid less.
The Player hand draws first
Player draws a third card on a total of 0 to 5 and stands on 6 or 7. That is the only Player rule. If Player stands, Banker uses the same rule: draw on 0 to 5, stand on 6 or 7.
Standard baccarat rules in one line: a natural 8 or 9 on either side ends the hand. Otherwise Player draws on 0 to 5, and Banker’s draw depends on its own total and Player’s third card.
The Banker hand reacts to Player’s third card
When Player has drawn, Banker checks two things. One is its own two-card total; the other is the value of Player’s third card. The table below is the full rule set from the Wizard of Odds baccarat basics page. It is the standard version, also known as punto banco.
| Banker’s two-card total | Banker draws if Player’s third card is | Banker stands if Player’s third card is |
|---|---|---|
| 0, 1 or 2 | Any card. | Never stands. |
| 3 | 0 to 7, or 9. | 8. |
| 4 | 2 to 7. | 0, 1, 8 or 9. |
| 5 | 4 to 7. | 0 to 3, 8 or 9. |
| 6 | 6 or 7. | 0 to 5, 8 or 9. |
| 7 | Never draws. | Any card. |
| 8 or 9 (natural) | Never draws. | Any card. |
Three hands show how it plays out:
- Player holds 2 and 3 for 5, draws a 4 and reaches 9. Banker holds 6 and stands, because a 4 is not a 6 or 7. Player wins, 9 against 6.
- Player holds King and 4, draws a 7 and drops to 1. Banker holds 5 and draws, since 7 falls in the 4 to 7 range. Banker now wins with any card except a 5 (total 0, a loss) or a 6 (total 1, a tie).
- Player holds 7 and Queen and stands on 7. Banker holds 3 and 2 for 5 and draws, because Player stood and Banker draws on 0 to 5.
The second example shows Banker’s advantage at work. Banker acts last, with Player’s third card in view, so it wins slightly more often. The 5% commission exists to take that advantage back.
What do Player, Banker and Tie pay?
The standard baccarat payout rules are short. Commission comes off the winnings, never the stake: win S$100 on Banker and you get your S$100 back plus S$95.
| Bet | Standard payout | Profit on a winning S$100 bet | Common variation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player | 1 to 1 | S$100 | Same at almost every table. |
| Banker | 0.95 to 1 (5% commission) | S$95 | No Commission: 1 to 1, but a Banker win on 6 pays 1 to 2 (S$50). |
| Tie | 8 to 1 | S$800 | Some tables pay 9 to 1 (S$900). |
| Player Pair or Banker Pair | 11 to 1 | S$1,100 | Pay tables vary by studio. |
When the hand ties, Player and Banker bets push and the stake comes back in full. A Tie bet, by contrast, loses whenever either side wins.
No Commission tables change the maths more than the name suggests. They remove the 5% from every Banker win, then halves the payout when Banker wins with a total of 6. That happens in about 5.39% of hands, often enough to make Banker more expensive than at a standard table.
Baccarat odds: how often each result lands
Baccarat odds come from counting every possible deal from the shoe. Because the baccarat rules fix every draw, the count is exact, and Wizard of Odds has done it in full for eight decks. The figures below are probabilities per hand. A six-deck shoe moves the three main results by less than 0.01 of a percentage point.
| Result | Probability (8 decks) | In plain terms |
|---|---|---|
| Banker wins | 45.86% | About 46 hands in 100. |
| Player wins | 44.62% | About 45 hands in 100. |
| Tie | 9.52% | About 1 hand in 10.5. |
| Pair in the first two Player cards | 7.47% | About 1 hand in 13.4. |
Strip out the ties and Banker wins 50.68% of decided hands against Player’s 49.32%. That 1.36-point gap is why Banker pays commission. With no commission at all, the Banker bet would give the player an edge of about 1.24%, which no casino offers for long.
Odds and payouts are different things. A 9.52% chance means fair odds on the Tie of about 9.5 to 1. The table pays 8 to 1, and the gap between the two is where the Tie’s large edge comes from.
Baccarat house edge, bet by bet
The baccarat house edge is the share of each bet the casino expects to keep over many hands. For Banker the working is short: 0.4586 × 0.95 for wins, minus 0.4462 for losses, with ties counting zero. That gives minus 0.0106, a 1.06% edge. For Player it is 0.4462 minus 0.4586, which is minus 0.0124, a 1.24% edge.
| Bet | Payout | House edge (8 decks) | Expected cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banker | 0.95 to 1 | 1.06% | S$1.06 per S$100. |
| Player | 1 to 1 | 1.24% | S$1.24 per S$100. |
| Banker, No Commission | 1 to 1, or 1 to 2 on a 6 | 1.46% | S$1.46 per S$100. |
| Tie | 9 to 1 | 4.84% | S$4.84 per S$100. |
| Tie | 8 to 1 | 14.36% | S$14.36 per S$100. |
| Player or Banker Pair | 11 to 1 | 10.36% | S$10.36 per S$100. |
The No Commission figure comes from Wizard of Odds’ commission-free baccarat analysis, which puts the eight-deck baccarat house edge on Banker at 1.46%. On six decks the main figures barely move: 1.06% on Banker, 1.24% on Player and 14.44% on the Tie. Any live studio or casino floor that uses the same baccarat rules, payouts and shoe size shares these numbers.
Put that in session terms. One hundred hands at S$50 is S$5,000 staked. The expected cost is about S$53 on Banker, S$62 on Player and S$718 on an 8 to 1 Tie. A single session can swing far more than that in either direction, but the average pulls towards those figures the longer you play. Any baccarat strategy has to start from this table.
Which side bets are worth the extra cost?
Side bets sit outside the main baccarat rules, and most live tables add a few. Their rules sit in each game’s help panel, and pay tables differ between studios. The edges below are for the versions Wizard of Odds analysed for eight decks in its side bet appendix. Check that your table pays the same.
- Player Pair or Banker Pair at 11 to 1 wins when the first two cards of that hand match in rank. House edge: 10.36%.
- Dragon Bonus pays by winning margin, from 1 to 1 up to 30 to 1 for a win by 9 points. House edge: 2.65% on the Player side and 9.37% on the Banker side.
- Dragon 7, from EZ Baccarat, pays 40 to 1 when Banker wins with a three-card 7. House edge: 7.61%.
- Panda 8, also from EZ Baccarat, pays 25 to 1 when Player wins with a three-card 8. House edge: 10.19%.
Only the Player Dragon Bonus comes near the main bets, and it still costs about two and a half times the Banker bet. Treat side bets as paid entertainment with a known price.
Baccarat strategy that survives the maths
A sound baccarat strategy is short. You control only two things: which bet you make and how much you stake. The numbers above give clear answers to both, and nothing in the baccarat rules lets you change the odds after the cards are out.
- At a standard 5% commission table, bet Banker. At 1.06% it carries the lowest baccarat house edge on the layout.
- At a No Commission table the advice flips: Player at 1.24% is cheaper than Banker at 1.46%.
- Skip the Tie at 8 to 1. Even at 9 to 1 it costs 4.84%, more than four times the Banker bet.
- Price side bets before you place them: 2.65% at best, 10% or more for most.
- Set your stake from your budget before you sit down, and keep it flat.
Flat betting does not improve the edge. It keeps your losses in proportion to your time at the table, which makes them easier to plan for.
Why doesn’t the Martingale beat the house edge?
The Martingale doubles the stake after every loss, so that one win recovers everything plus the first stake. On Banker it fails even before you reach a table limit, because the 5% commission eats the profit. Here is a run starting at S$10, with ties pushing:
| Losses before the win | Stake on the winning hand | Already lost | Net result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | S$10 | S$0 | Up S$9.50. |
| 2 | S$40 | S$30 | Up S$8. |
| 4 | S$160 | S$150 | Up S$2. |
| 5 | S$320 | S$310 | Down S$6. |
| 6 | S$640 | S$630 | Down S$22. |
After five straight losses, even a winning Banker hand leaves you behind. Long streaks are common, too. Treating hands as independent, the chance of at least one run of seven or more Banker losses in 200 decided hands is about 51%. Seven straight losses from a S$10 start cost S$1,270, and the next bet would be S$1,280.
The Wizard of Odds review of betting systems reaches the same verdict for every progression it tests. A system changes the size of your bets, while the probability of winning each one stays put, so the long-run loss rate settles at the game’s house edge.
Do roads and patterns predict the next hand?
Asian-style live tables show scoreboards: the Bead Plate, the Big Road, and three derived roads called Big Eye Boy, Small Road and Cockroach Pig. They record what has already happened in the shoe. Wizard of Odds’ guide to baccarat score boards explains how each one is drawn. It concludes that using them to predict the next hand is wasted effort, because the odds of each hand stay the same.
Strictly, a shoe has a little memory, since dealt cards do not go back in. The effect is tiny. Wizard of Odds’ card counting analysis found that a simple count cuts the combined edge from about 1.11% to about 1.01%. Roads record results and ignore which cards have gone, so they miss even that 0.1 of a point.
Live baccarat variants in the GGLBET lobby
On 12 October 2026 the Baccarat tab in the GGLBET live casino listed 135 tables from 19 providers. The whole live lobby held 1,044 games. The game search found 159 live games with baccarat in the name, because 42 of them sit in other tabs. CREEDROOMZ supplied the most, with 22 tables. Pragmatic Play Live and SA GAMING had 16 each, Wcasino 14, Evolution 12 and Microgaming Live 10.
The lobby shows a thumbnail, the table name and the provider, and nothing else. It does not list betting limits, seats or dealer names, so open a table and check its limits before you play.
Speed, Squeeze and No Commission tables
These versions keep the standard baccarat rules for drawing and change something else:
- Speed Baccarat shortens the betting window. GGLBET had tables under that exact name from XPG, AMUSNET and Microgaming Live. It also had lettered and language versions, such as CREEDROOMZ’s Korean Speed Baccarat A and Pragmatic Play Live’s Cantonese Speed Baccarat.
- Squeeze tables reveal the cards slowly, bent at the corner, for drama. The lobby had Privé Lounge Baccarat Squeeze 1 and 2 from Pragmatic Play Live, and tables named Squeeze Baccarat from Pragmatic Play Live and ICONIC21. The odds match a normal deal.
- No Commission Baccarat came from 7MojosLive, Ezugi and Evolution, with CREEDROOMZ adding lettered tables A, B, C and H. Remember the price: 1.46% on Banker instead of 1.06%.
The tab also holds Evolution’s Peek Baccarat and Bac Bo, a dice game that borrows the Player and Banker bets. There was no table called Mega Baccarat.
Lightning Baccarat changes the maths
Lightning Baccarat keeps the normal baccarat rules for drawing, then adds multipliers. Evolution launched it in January 2020, according to its launch press release. In each round, one to five random Lightning Cards get a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 8x. A winning hand holding those cards pays more, up to 512x on Player or Banker and 262,144x on the Tie. The multipliers change what a win pays and leave the baccarat odds of each result untouched.
The multipliers are funded by a 20% Lightning fee on each bet. The Casino.org rules summary lists returns of 98.76% on Player, 98.59% on Banker and 94.51% on the Tie. As house edges that is about 1.24%, 1.41% and 5.49%, so Player is the cheaper side here. GGLBET lists Lightning Baccarat and XXXtreme Lightning Baccarat, both from Evolution; check each game’s help panel for its own figures.
How GGLBET’s live casino promotions treat baccarat
GGLBET’s live offers do not all treat baccarat the same way, so read the terms before you claim. All figures below come from the promotion pages on 12 October 2026; the promotions page has the current list.
| Offer | Key terms in SGD | Does baccarat count? |
|---|---|---|
| 100% Live Casino Welcome Bonus | Up to S$500, minimum deposit S$50, maximum bet S$100, 25x turnover, 7 days, once per account. | Yes. The terms cover all live casino. |
| 10% Live Casino Daily Unlimited Deposit Bonus | Up to S$300, minimum deposit S$50, maximum bet S$100, 10x turnover, 3 days. | Yes. The terms cover all live casino. |
| Daily Rebate Bonus on Live Casino | 0.25% of the previous day’s turnover, minimum S$5, maximum S$150 to S$500 by VIP rank, 1x turnover, 3 days. | Yes. Only Sic Bo, Bac Bo, Dragon Tiger and Double Red Dog are excluded. |
| 5% Cashback on Slots & Live Casino | Weekly live cashback in real money, minimum loss S$200, cap S$2,000 to S$4,000 by VIP rank. | No. Baccarat, Sic Bo, Bac Bo and Dragon Tiger are excluded. |
Claim the welcome offer in Profile, then Promotional Bonuses, before your first deposit; the terms say claim first, then deposit by local bank transfer. They also warn that new providers, or some providers, might not offer a bonus system. The rebate caps rise with your VIP rank.
GGLBET’s Standard Promotion Rules add two points that hit baccarat directly. Bets that push on a tie do not count towards turnover, and neither do bets placed on opposite sides with the same outcome. The casino terms also treat covering both outcomes to build turnover as abusive play, which can cost you the bonus and its winnings. Backing Player and Banker together to clear a bonus does not work.
Here is the welcome bonus in numbers. If the 25x applies to the bonus alone, a full S$500 bonus needs S$12,500 of qualifying bets. The offer does not say whether the deposit counts as well, so ask live chat before you start. At the S$100 maximum bet that is at least 125 decided hands, or about 138 hands dealt once ties are allowed for. The expected cost of S$12,500 on Banker is about S$132, and about S$154 on Player.
The rebate is small but useful for regular players. S$2,000 of baccarat turnover in a day earns S$5, the minimum daily rebate, against an expected cost of about S$21 on Banker. That trims Banker’s expected cost from S$1.06 to about S$0.81 per S$100. While you play through a rebate, the maximum bet is S$25.
Facts in this guide were last checked on 12 October 2026. For account questions, the GGLBET FAQ covers deposits, withdrawals and verification.
Play responsibly: set a session budget before you open a table and stop when it is gone, rather than doubling up to win it back. Baccarat is fast, and a 1.06% edge still adds up over hundreds of hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Banker always the best bet in baccarat?
At a standard table with 5% commission, yes: 1.06% against 1.24% for Player. At a No Commission table the order flips, because Banker costs 1.46% there. In Lightning Baccarat the published returns also favour Player, at 98.76% against 98.59%.
What happens to my Player or Banker bet if the hand ties?
It pushes, so you get the stake back. Ties come up in about 9.52% of hands. At GGLBET, a pushed bet does not count towards bonus turnover.
Why does the Banker bet pay only 0.95 to 1?
Banker acts after Player and uses Player’s third card to decide whether to draw. That lets Banker win 50.68% of decided hands. The 5% commission turns that advantage back into a 1.06% house edge for the casino.
Do baccarat rules differ between live tables?
The drawing rules are the same at every standard table. What changes is the shoe size, the commission, the Tie payout and the side bets. Eight decks is the usual shoe and some tables use six, which moves the Tie edge only from 14.36% to 14.44%.
Can you count cards in baccarat?
You can, but it barely pays. Wizard of Odds found that a simple count lowers the combined edge from about 1.11% to about 1.01%. That is nowhere near enough to put the game in your favour.
Do baccarat bets count for GGLBET’s live casino bonuses?
They count towards the 100% welcome bonus, the 10% daily live reload and the 0.25% daily rebate. They do not earn the weekly 5% live casino cashback, which excludes Baccarat, Sic Bo, Bac Bo and Dragon Tiger. Bets that push on a tie, and bets on opposite sides, never count towards turnover.
Is it legal to play baccarat at GGLBET from Singapore?
GGLBET is an offshore operator. It is not licensed by Singapore’s Gambling Regulatory Authority, and under the Gambling Control Act 2022 gambling with a remote operator that is not licensed in Singapore is an offence. The Ministry of Home Affairs explains how the Act and the Authority work.
What is the minimum bet at a live baccarat table?
The GGLBET lobby does not show table limits, so open the table you want and read its range before you bet. With a live casino bonus active, the maximum bet is S$100. New players can open an account in a few steps, and the minimum deposit is S$20.
